It's already done for you!
Check out the image to the right. Notice the long list of data locations that are already checked and will be backed up the very first time you use BACKUPKEY. This list (on a Windows Vista computer) includes all of the places that Vista stores your data, plus places where applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Firefox and Thunderbird store their data. Most programs that you might install will keep their data in one of these locations.
If you prefer, you can uncheck any of the boxes. However, even if you don't use some of the locations, such as Outlook, you could just leave the items checked because they don't slow you down and don't take up any space.
Details
BACKUPKEY backs up 18 data storage locations in Windows Vista and 7 in Windows XP. In addition, some software creates its own data storage locations. For example, Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird, QuickBooks Accounting, Peachtree Accounting and many other programs store data in locations that they create when you install them.
If you know of a program that BACKUPKEY should protect automatically, please let us know by sending us an email. We will be glad to add it if appropriate.
Adding additional items to back up
If you customize your computer by changing the data storage location (power users might do this), then you will want to add your new location to the "What to Back Up" list. Here's how you do it:
    1) Click "Add a Folder to Back Up"
(you can see it in the top image here)
    2) Select the drive that contains your data
        (bottom image, showing "c: [Vista_Ultimate]")
    3) Find the folder you want to back up
(you created it, so you know where it is)
    4) Click "Add Selected Folder"
Backing up across networks
In order to back up network folders, you need to map them to drive letters first. Of course, if you regularly use network data, it's already mapped.
Network folders appear in the drive list (here showing "c: [Vista_Ultimate]"). Select the entire drive or any folder on the drive just as you would a drive or folder on your own computer.
